Background of the Study
Remote work has become a prevalent work arrangement, especially in the IT sector, where employees can perform tasks virtually without being physically present in an office. The flexibility of remote work offers several advantages, including reduced commuting time, better work-life balance, and increased autonomy. However, it also presents unique challenges, such as isolation, work-life boundary issues, and increased stress levels due to high workloads and digital connectivity expectations (Adebayo & Usman, 2023).
In Taraba State, the IT industry is growing, with many professionals working remotely for national and international companies. While remote work provides flexibility, it also raises concerns regarding stress levels, as employees often struggle with blurred work-life boundaries, prolonged screen exposure, and job insecurity. The absence of direct supervision and workplace socialization can further contribute to mental exhaustion, anxiety, and burnout (Olawale & Yusuf, 2024).
This study seeks to evaluate the impact of remote work on stress levels among IT professionals in Taraba State. It will explore the benefits and drawbacks of remote work, identify stress-related factors, and recommend strategies for mitigating work-induced stress among remote IT workers.
Statement of the Problem
While remote work offers flexibility, it also introduces challenges that can affect employees' mental health. IT professionals often experience long working hours, tight deadlines, and high expectations, leading to increased stress levels. The lack of structured work environments and direct interactions with colleagues may exacerbate feelings of isolation and work-related anxiety.
In Taraba State, where remote work is increasingly common among IT professionals, there is limited empirical research on its impact on stress levels. Understanding these effects is essential for developing policies that improve the well-being and productivity of remote IT workers. This study aims to examine the stressors associated with remote work, evaluate coping mechanisms, and propose solutions for minimizing work-related stress.
Objectives of the Study
1. To assess the relationship between remote work and stress levels among IT professionals in Taraba State.

3. To recommend strategies for reducing stress and improving work-life balance among remote IT professionals.

Research Hypotheses

Scope and Limitations of the Study
This study will focus on IT professionals engaged in remote work in Taraba State. Limitations may include variations in individual stress tolerance and differences in organizational remote work policies.
